School Selection

Cohort 1 schools were identified for involvement in the Striving Readers project if they met the  following criteria:  1)  schools receiving Title I funding and 2) schools performing in the lower quartile of literacy achievement with grade ranges that include grade 6 thru grade 8 students (as identified by Chicago Public Schools in a district-generated database).  From the identified schools, 32 schools were randomly assigned to receive the program in their schools (treatment) or not receive the program in their schools but function as a matched control (control).  Based on that methodology, your school was selected as a Cohort 1 control school.
