The CPS Striving Readers program evaluation is a five year study designed to study the longitudinal outcomes associated with implementation of differentiated literacy instructional approaches for all students, particularly struggling readers, in 6th, 7th and 8th  grades.  The evaluation is specifically formulated to measure the following activities:

  1. Document the implementation of CPS-SR in the 32 treatment schools in contrast to literacy instruction and improvement efforts at the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades in the 32 control schools, and assess the degree and fidelity of the implementation in relation to the project plan.
  2. Analyze 6th, 7th, and 8th grade student reading performance on the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT)
  3. Analyze the relations among degree and fidelity of implementation and student performance on the ISAT and ClassView.
  4. Assess whether the reading performance of struggling readers in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades improves more quickly in the CPS-SR schools than in the non-CPS-SR schools.

Assess whether the reading performance of students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades improves more quickly in the CPS-SR schools than in the non-CPS-SR schools.
